Preserving Church Records Together: A Sustainable Model
Abstract
Staff from three academic libraries will discuss how they collaborated on a grant to make materials from historic rural churches publicly accessible online. They will discuss:
- selecting, digitizing, and physical transferring materials;
- creating shared metadata standards;
- building a site in Omeka S;
- and supporting long-term curation of community content.
They'll also highlight how collaboration helped them navigate
- staffing changes,
- vendor issues,
- remote coordination,
- and a grant extension.
This project involved Columbia Theological Seminary, Mercer University, and Emory University - who joined forces to collaborate on the Historic Rural Churches grant funded by the Lettie Pate Evans Foundation.
