Building Critical Thinkers: Genealogy as a Marketing and Instructional Tool
Abstract
In an era of AI-generated content and information overload, Georgia's libraries must lead the charge in supporting and developing patrons’ critical thinking abilities. Learn how a technical college library used genealogy to both market itself and as an engaging way to teach source evaluation and basic research skills.
Participants will:
- Gain concrete strategies for teaching information literacy with genealogy that are aligned with Common Core standards for middle and high schools.
- Explore approaches for addressing sensitive family histories and modeling academic and soft skills.
- Learn how to leverage affordable tools and strategies for marketing library services, staff, and databases.
- Take home copies of marketing and instructional materials to update for use in their own libraries.
