QUITMAN - Phillip Lazarus, 76 [born about 1877], a resident of Quitman for about 50 years [since about 1903] and a highly esteemed merchant and farmer of Quitman and Brooks county died at his home, 305 North Court street this morning [5 Aug].

Survivors include

his wife,
- Mrs. Lena Pearlman Lazarus,
three children,
1. Mrs. A. [Jean] Pincus and
2. Jake Lazarus, Quitman and
3. Mrs. Louis Miller, Atlanta;
two sisters,
1. Mrs. Will Rosenberg, Jacksonville, Fla., and
2. Mrs. Max Bohrman, Lake City, Fla., and
two brothers,
1. Israel and
2. Joe Lazarus of Valdosta.
A number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow [6 Aug] in the chapel of the Maxwell-Eason Funeral home here, with Rabbi Louis Gorod of Valdosta conducting.

Burial will be in Sunset Hill in Valdosta.

Mr. Lazarus was a native of Russia. He came to this country when he was a young man and soon located in Quitman.

He was a Mason and a Shriner.

Mr. Lazarus was a charter member of the Valdosta Hebrew Congregation [later known as Temple Israel].
