Mrs. Maggie Lazarus, 84 [born about 1878], a long-time resident of Valdosta, died in Pineview General Hospital [in Valdosta, Georgia, now called South Georgia Medical Center] Tuesday [12 June] after a lengthy illness.

Survivors include: 

  • Three sons, 
    1. Louis Lazarus, West Palm Beach, Fla., 
    2. Sam Lazarus, Brewton, Ala.,
    3. William Lazarus, Trenton, Fla.;
  • five daughters, 
    1. Mrs. Ethel Hopkins, Valdosta,
    2. Miss Rose Lazarus, Valdosta,
    3. Mrs. Lucile Taylor, Quitman [Georgia],
    4. Mrs. Myrtle Waters, Quitman, and
    5. Mrs. Ann Zelkind, Lake City, Fla.,
  • one sister, 
    1. Mrs. Ella Tew, Headland, Ala.;
  • seven grandchildren and
  • five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were to be held today [13 Jun] at 2 p.m. at the McGowan Funderal Home [308 N. Patterson Street, Valdosta]. Burial is to follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery [Valdosta].

Mrs. Lazarus a resident of Valdosta for the past 54 years [since about 1908], was a member of the Valdosta Hebrew Congregation [later known as Temple Israel].

Funeral services for Mrs. Maggie Lazarus, who died Tuesday [12 June], were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday [13 June] in the chapel of McGowan funeral home [308 N. Patterson Street, Valdosta].

Rabbi Samuel Zakuto of Temple Israel in Valdosta conducted the services.
