Early citizen of Dothan will be buried Wednesday morning.
L. A. Oppert, pioneer Dothan citizen, died at his home, 219 W. Crawford street, at 7:30 p.m. Monday [3 February] following a two weeks illness of pneumonia. He was 59.
Lon Oppert was born in Clayton [Barbour], Ala. in 1876 and moved to Dothan 47 years ago [around 1889], becoming one of this city's earliest citizens. He was a machinist and auctioneer and widely known throughout this section.
Surviving are
- his wife;
- two sons, Jamie and Louis Oppert;
- several grandchildren;
- a brother, J. M. Oppert, Ozark;
- and four sisters,
- Mrs C. F. Herring and Mrs Joel Tew, both of Headland;
- Mrs Sallie Nichols, Center Hill, Fla.; and
- Mrs Harriest Lazarus, Valdosta, Ga.
Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday [5 February] at the Houston Funeral Home chapel with Dr. L. W. Dockery, pastor of First Baptist church, officiating. Burial will follow in Smyrna cemetery.
