Mrs. William Meyers, 29 [born about 1910], ill for the past six months [since about February 1939] with streptococcic infection of the inner lining of the heart, died at 8:30 o'clock this morning [August 26] in Chicago Memorial hospital [Cook county, Illinois]. The young woman had been in a coma for the past week.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Dowell [Billy's aunt and uncle], accompanied by Billy Meyers, the eleven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Meyers, left for Chicago this morning before information had been received by relatives here concerning the young woman's death.
The local people are expected to return this evening with complete information concerning funeral rites which will be held here.
Mrs. Meyers was the former Lillian Pence, a daughter of Florence and Verne Pence, the later [Verne] of Chicago. She [Lillian?] was born in this city. Her marriage to William Meyers occurred 12 years ago [about 1927, when Lillian was about 17 years old], and during that time [from about 1927 to 1939] the couple lived in Chicago.
Surviving
- besides the husband [William] and
- the parents [both Verne and Florence] are
- a daughter, Barbara, aged 6 [born about 1933], and
- a son, Billy, aged 11 [born about 1928];
- three sisters,
- Mrs. Lee Dare Young [does three names imply multiple marriages, or is it to distinguish between other Mrs. Lee?], of Ann Arbor, Mich.,
- Mrs. Lee Dowell
- and Faith Pence [possibly unmarried], of this city [Columbia City, Indiana],
- and one brother, Paul Pence, of this city and of Chicago.
The funeral rites will probably be held Tuesday [August 29] at the Luckenbill's Sons Funeral home.
