Transcript of Obituary [formatting added]

On the 9th inst. [9 July 1865], at his late residence, in Pleasant township, Mr. Geo. C. Pence died, aged about 70 years [born about 1795].

The deceased, during a residence of near ten years [since about 1855] in the county acquired many warm friends who, with the widow and children, sincerely mourn his loss. He was a kind husband, an affectionate father, and a benevolent neighbor.

In his last and quite protracted illness, he evinced much patience and fortitude. Sensible of his approaching death, the hope of a blessed immortality deprived the monster of his "sting" and the grave of "victory." It may be truly said of him that he lived and died an honest man, beloved by all.
