Mrs. Lazarus was one of the best known ladies of the city. To all her acquaintances in Valdosta she was familiarly and affectionately known as "Mother Lazarus", and her kindness of heart, gentleness of spirit and charitable disposition won her the affection of all with whom she came in contact. She had been in very poor health for some months, growing better at times and then relapsing, but always losing strength. Her death was not unexpected, and nearly all of her children were with her when then end came.
Mrs. Lazarus had been a resident of Valdosta for more than two decades [since before 1910] and was well known.
Following the funeral services at the s[y]nagogue, the funeral party left for Thomasville where interment will be in the Jewish cemetery [B'nai Israel Hebrew cemetery at the intersection of Vine and Chestnut streets].

Mrs. Lazarus, who was born in Sadiva, Russia, moved to this country twenty-five years ago [about 1905]. Her first home was in Quitman [Georgia], but the family moved to this city nearly thirteen years ago [around 1917], and it has been her home ever since [through 1930].
Mrs. Lazarus was a devout adherant to the orthodox rites of the Hebrews. She was known for the kindness of her heart and her many acts of charity and was deeply beloved here.
Twelve children survive her:
- Messrs. Phillip and Israel Lazarus of Quitman;
- Messrs. Sam, Joe and Harry Lazarus of Valdosta;
- Mr. Will Lazarus of Jacksonville [Florida];
