Mrs. Elsie Savina Rhodes, of Churubusco, died about 9 o'clock Monday morning [22 March] at her home on West Whitley street, at the advanced age of 80 years, 7 months, and 27 days.

She was a daughter of David and Sarah Smith Hettinger, and was born in Ohio on July 7, 1845.

She was married to Jacob Sleesman, who died several years ago.

Two children survive this union:

  • Mrs. A. M. Long, of Churubusco, and
  • George W. Sleesman, of Prosser, Wash.

On August 2, 1922 [at the age of 77], she was united in marriage to Thomas Rhodes, one of the pioneer merchants of Churubusco, who survives.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon [24 March] at 1 o'clock at the United Brethren church, of which she was a member. The pastor, Rev. S. M. Hill, will officiate. Burial will be in the Egolf cemetery north of Columbia City.
